Mailmark is Royal Mail’s new barcode and optical technology for handling bulk mailings. It will replace its OCR (Optical Character Recognition) and CBC (customer barcoding) options. It is part of Royal Mail’s drive to modernise its processes. Mailmark will create more transparency in the mailing system enabling organisations to more easily integrate advertising mail into wider marketing campaigns. Moreover, in order to aid the transition to Mailmark Royal Mail has announced a further price differential from January 2016 which could be as high as five per cent. This will make 1st and 2nd class standard letters significantly cheaper for mailers than under CBC, the current most cost effective bulk mailing option.
Royal Mail has made a half million pound fund available to help mail producers to offset the potential production costs of implementing Mailmark. This will be allocated at a rate of £1000 per million Mailmark items posted and up to a total of £50,000 per mail producer.
In order to be Mailmark ready, ONEPOST has upgraded its sortation software to produce eManifest files that are now compatible with GeMMA (Generic eManifest Management Application), The Software Bureau’s new Mailmark compliant IT solution.
“This is two best of breed businesses coming together to help organisations navigate the new Royal Mail changes. GeMMA is already recognised by the industry as the best Mailmark compliant software on the market so it makes perfect sense for us to integrate it into our system to create a holistic solution for our clients. When Royal Mail transitions to Mailmark direct mailers that aren’t using Mailmark compliant suppliers will find themselves significantly out of pocket.”
“We are delighted that ONEPOST has chosen to integrate GeMMA into its systems as it proves the calibre of our Mailmark software solution. ONEPOST is a significant player in the industry; it handles a large proportion of UK mail and together we can ensure that bulk mailers are getting the best possible service and deal for their direct mail campaigns. We have developed GeMMA closely in association with Royal Mail and consequently it is a complete Mailmark eManifest management application capable of handling Mailmark postings from Royal Mail, downstream access providers and now ONEPOST.”
